Show Calendar
April – July 2013
Chicago’s own, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound are playing a free show at Reckless Records in Lakeview on Record Store Day (Saturday 4/20). It’s an acoustic set, but something tells me it’s still going to get crowded in there…
Sold Out
My Morning Jacket front man Jim James comes to the Vic for a 420 show.
His new solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, is great and is currently streaming for free on NPR’s First Listen.

I’ve known of Deer Tick for a long time, but first really checked them out last year after stumbling across John J. McCauley’s side project, Middle Brother, which he heads up along with Matt Vasquez from Delta Sprint and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. Pretty stellar alt-rock from the east coast.
I’ve never been to City Winery – so when I saw that Deer Tick was stopping though – I jumped at the opportunity and nagged my buddies until one of them agreed to come with me. Nothing like a little hump day rocking to break up the week.
So I’m dumb and bought tickets to Of Montreal and Rodriguez on the same night. I’m going to Rodriguez because he might not come back around, but tell me this doesn’t look fun:
Sixto Rodriguez is coming to the Arie Crown Theatre for a show put together by the good people at Schuba’s and Lincoln Hall. If you haven’t seen Searching for Sugar Man yet, you should really check out his story of great early 70s records that flopped in the US, unknown fame in South Africa and the hunt for the mysterious man from Detroit.
I got Family by Lauren Dukoff today, a book of photographs she took of musician friends like Joanna Newsom, Vetiver, and Devendra Banhart. After seeing 50 pictures of Devendra looking bad ass – like playing a classical guitar with seven rings on and wearing velvet pants, I decided that I need to go to this show.
Bjork, R Kelly, Belle & Sebastian, MIA, Low, Chairlift, Foxygen, Mac Demarco, Frankie Rose, many more
